A book signing with a 6 year old does not sound like an adventure you would choose to go on but, I chose to after my sister introduced me to a new author and book series, Robert Beatty author of the Serafina Series. He recently released a fourth book “Willa of the Wood“. He had a book signing at the local Barnes and Nobles last Wednesday night to promote the book. Walking into the store Wednesday you could tell he needed no promotion; the place was packed with those there to buy the book and meet the man behind it.

We had fun at the signing, MK had her face painted, played in the children’s book section. We are so use to buying everything online that it is  rare that we actually go to a store like Barnes and Nobles and MK enjoyed every minute of it. She was so fascinated with a place that could hold so many books that she could choose and take home and as she says “keep forever and not have to return” (we use the library sometimes).

The Author himself was a nice to everyone and seemed to really enjoy meeting those that enjoy reading his book or like MK ready to start reading them. He took the time to have a brief conversation with those that came up and, unlike most author’s, encouraged those that had all his books to bring them to be signed also.

If you ever get the chance to go to one of his book signings I suggest you go. Even my shy

6 year old enjoyed the experience and has asked to do it again.

We started reading Willa of the Wood and it even caught the love of my daughter. It starts out rough (think beginning of Bambi) so you may want to read it first and determine for yourself if it is something you want to read to your children or you want them to read. But do keep in mind it is published through Disney. I love the book and it definitely has drawn me in and the book does not stay rough. Just keep in mind it is about spirits and set in the Appalachian Mountains during the 1900’s. MK and I look forward to reading this book every night.
